Don’t Stop the Carnival

dont stop the carnival

Are you dreaming about quitting your (stateside) job, selling all your belongings, and moving to the Virgin Islands to live your dream??  As you sit on the beach on your one week vacation not wanting it to come to an end, this is the dream of most St John visitors.  If this is your dream then this book — Don’t Stop the Carnival by Herman Wouk– is a must read.

Originally published in 1965, the story related in Don’t Stop the Carnival is every bit as true and relevant today! And, the experiences of Norman Paperman, the New York City press agent who made the plunge to move to the Caribbean to become a hotel keeper (read for that Villa owner, restaurant owner, charter boat captain, etc, etc), could have been our experiences as we moved to St John to build and manage Great Expecations.  It is a great book – at times funny, at times sad, but, in the end worth the trip, energy, and love for St John!
