8 Tuff Miles has become a world-wide draw. Running – or walking – from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay is not for the weak that is for sure. The views are breath-taking as are the hills! Usually held on a Saturday in late February, this is an amazingly fun ‘excuse’ to head to St John in the midst of winter.
This course begins and ends at sea level. Along the way you will reach an elevation of 999 ft. There is approximately 1400 ft. of elevation gain in the first 5 1/2 miles and then it’s back to sea level. The course actually measures 8 3/8 miles. The temperature at the start of the race is usually in the low 80’s.
The race has mushroomed over the last 20 years with nearly 2,000 (1,155 actually) folks actually crossing the finish line in 2016; up from 21 finishers the first year (1997) of the race.
When planning your time on St John to participate in the 8 Tuff Mile Race take a look at our St John villa. We have hosted runners (and walkers) in the past and would love to host your group, too. Check out our availability.
