Two or three ferry companies operate between the islands of St Thomas and St John and even the British Virgin Islands. Ferries run daily between St Thomas and St John. They regular depart hourly from Red Hook (located on the East End of St Thomas) to Cruz Bay St. John, and less frequently from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas to Cruz Bay, St. John. Once you are on the ferry to St John you can declare yourself officially on vacation.

Red Hook > Cruz Bay starts hourly at 5:30am, then switches to the even hours at 8:00am to 9:00am and through to midnight
Cruz Bay > Red Hook (for that sad journey home) run hourly from 6:00am to 11:00pm

A more efficient, and faster option is the Cruz Bay – Charlotte Amalie Ferry which typically has 3 ferries a day between St. Thomas and St. John. It’s a shorter cab ride, a longer ferry ride (where you can soak in more sun), and less bumps than cabbing all the way across St. Thomas.

Factor in 45-50 minutes for the cab ride from the airport to Red Hook and vice versa, 10 minutes for the Charlotte Amalie to Airport taxi.
