Ronnie Lockhart of St Thomas has wonderful historical pictures of the Virgin Islands and he posted this one recently on his Facebook page.  Note the marching band.  Looks pretty formal but I bet there were some Caribbean steel band music as well!
More recent parades have taken a more colorful (and raucous) tone.  St John’s 4th of July parade is one of the concluding activities of a month long Carnival season.  It is wonderfully colorful and fun as can be attested by the photos below captured by our friends at the St John Source from the 2011 St John Festival Parade:

The Westin Troupe showed their enthusiasm
and energy with the singing of the Carnival song “Push”
What will this year’s St John Festival parade later today bring?

Happy 4th to all!
