Low Key Watersports

This full-service dive shop has been taking tourists and locals on SCUBA trips all around the Virgin Islands for almost 40 years. With 2 new dive boats (Hey Now and Phoenix) purchased after Irma and Maria wrecked their previous two, they typically run morning and afternoon dive trips daily for certified divers or interested guests who want to do a Discovery SCUBA Dive to see whether they would enjoy getting certified.

Low Key’s retail shop also rents snorkel gear & beach things and sells bathing suits and clothing.

The Beach Bar

Re-opened New Year’s Eve 2019, the island welcomed back an old favorite after over 2 years. The bar has been rebuilt with a little more space all around, nice Brazilian hardwood, a new webcam (installed by Steve), as well as a new, larger kitchen with an updated menu. The Beach Bar on St. John is one of the best places to just sit and hang out overlooking Cruz Bay and many nights listen to some great live music.

Joe's Rum Hut

Finally - 850+ days after Hurricane Maria swept her 2nd CAT5 punch to St. John - Joe’s Rum Hut opened back up in 2020 after a complete rebuild. They are working to expand their menu and seating in early 2020. Great place for a stop after a day charter or Happy Hour to watch the sun go down over Cruz Bay!

Crandall Massage

Meagan Crandall will come to Great Expectations to perform onsite massage therapy for guests. She performs a variety of massage types including Swedish, deep tissue, prenatal, “Equator” hot stone, couples massages, and aromatherapy. She accepts cash, PayPal, Venmo, and personal checks.

O' Connor Car Rental

A family business on St. John since 1975, O’Connor has a stable of clean, reliable Jeeps that can be picked up just through the ‘circle’ or roundabout just past Woody’s and Extra Virgin Bistro in Cruz Bay.

Wonderful Taxi

Mr. Wonder, aka Leo Maximin, and his bright green Kermit the frog safari taxi has been driving guests of Great Expectations around for years. He loves touring groups around the island, making beach trips and also does custom private service to weddings and receptions all over St. John.

Located straight up Prince Street off the ferry dock, this jewelry store has some wonderful pieces in various metals and gems. Home to the former Kro-Go jewelry from Wharfside Village.

Salomon Bay

Amazing white sugar sand and rarely busy, Salomon Bay beach is the western most beach on the north shore of St. John. You can hike the Lind Point trail just past Mongoose Junction by hiking about a mile uphill and taking the left hand path at the fork. You can continue on to Honeymoon Beach and can also reach Salomon by parking at Caneel entrance, getting a ride to Honeymoon, and hiking west.

Reef Bay Beach

Technically just 2 bay away from Great Expectations, Reef Bay is the water east of Fish Bay on the other side of Ditleff Point. Reef Bay Beach can be gotten to by boat or alternatively by connecting into the Reef Bay Trail either of Centerline Road or from hiking across west from Little Lameshur. This long stretch of sand rarely has anyone on it, except for those hiking down from the Sugar Mill and Petroglyph ruins.

Looking for some moderate exercise, followed by a swim, and a ride back to the villa with a few cold drinks - get a ride to the top head of the Reef Bay Trail (or leave a vehicle there), hike down the trail, then hire Yellow Bird Charters to come pick you up, cold drinks and snacks in the cooler, for a sunset cruise that puts you back in Chocolate Hole only a short walk or drive up to Great Expectations
